The Valley Nursery and Pre School
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The Valley Nursery aims to provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment which provides each child with the greatest opportunity to achieve their full potential.

All children have daily access to our beautiful grounds boasting a Forest School area, secret garden, poly tunnel and lodge. We have a yoga teacher and hold Forest School sessions daily with our two Forest School Leaders.

We have long standing well qualified staff.

All activities are child centred and are developed through observation and reflection ensuring that the needs of the individual child are always met.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Onsite SENCO, cohort tracker, observations, ECAT monitoring, process orientated monitoring (POMS). On entry we use the moving on materials to get a good picture of each child and work with the parents to note starting points. If specific needs are identified we will set appropriate levels of support. If necessary and with parental permission, we will involve the Local Children's Inclusion Team. We complete 2 year old checks and share these with parents and Health Visitors. We have a quiet area for meetings and a sensory room for focused sessions.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

As above for identification then the SENCO works closely with any child with additional needs and their family and involves the necessary agencies to help support. Staff have attended Makaton training, Visual Support, Behaviour Management.

Links we have to other agencies

We work with SALT, educational psychologists, area SENCO, Family support, Autism workers, dieticians and Paediatricians. We are members of the Early Years Alliance.

How we support children transferring to school

Meetings with schools, transition sessions, visits from reception and head teachers. Throughout the year we attend events at our local school such as Christmas plays and Sumer Fetes.  We visit the Reception class each term to catch up with the children and look through their Learning Journeys and the Reception Teacher comes to our setting to do the same. Each Summer we inform parents of the transition process and involve them in settling in sessions.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

We follow the statutory Welfare Requirements. We have two designated Child Protection Officers, Kerry Wilson and Vicki Bramhall, all other staff have basic child protection qualifications.  Staff hold training in Behaviour, Visual Support and basic Makaton and Epi pen training. Our SENCO and back up SENCO have attended SENCO network meetings focused on, Autism awareness, Visual training, the pathway training and SEN code of practise.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

Parental involvement, advice about services available to them. Network meetings to give parents time to discuss/air issues with other parents and professionals. We promote PSED through activities, reward systems, puppets and social stories. We have quiet areas, sensory room and a lodge to provide a cosy and warm environment to help support children's well being. We carry out daily risk assessments. We have used the EY bereavement toolkit to help support children and families.  We have an Open Door Policy. We have been involved in the Early Support process and attended TAC meetings. We have involvement with the Early Years Inclusion service. We post weekly wellbeing advice and links on our app. Our key worker systems underpins all practice to support every child needs.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Meetings, reviews, learning together days, daily reports, online learning journeys and communication app. We receive feedback from parents after each event. We involve parents in all aspects of Nursery life. All documentation is available to parents. Key workers discuss children's developments daily at hand over and every term during focus weeks. We send out regular newsletters to keep parents informed of developments and up and coming events. Our Network meetings support parents in areas such as, communication and language, outdoor learning experiences and supporting and engaging boys in the Early Years.

Our complaints policy

We follow statutory guidelines and procedures. A written log is kept, complaints policy located in Policy File.
