Barnicoat, Deryck
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

I have been an Ofsted Registered Childminder since 2004 and have been graded Outstanding and Good by Ofsted. I have Child Protection, Paediatric First Aid, Food Safety and Food Allergy Certificates alongside the Introducing Childminding Practice Certificate and certificates relevant to delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage.

I work with my wife Susan, who is also an Ofsted Registered Childminder, together we are Three Smiles Childcare. We have 3 young adult sons of our own and have looked after approx 100 children of all ages and abilities. We are both members of PACEY - the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years.

We favour a child-led approach as this supports each childs interests and learning effectively. We have an extensive range of toys and open ended resources for children to play with indoors and outside so that they are happily occupied and learning all the time they are with us.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

When children join our setting, we consult with parents. We record any known additional needs and any concerns that the parents may have about their child's progress alongside details of the child's interests and care needs. We read any records parents would like to share with us about their child's progress at previous settings.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

We use the Early Years Foundation Stage and Development Matters as a basis for observations and assessments and consult parents about what the child does at home so that we can identify and support any additional needs together.

Links we have to other agencies

We are happy to liaise with any other agencies as required.

How we support children transferring to school

Children are supported as required to meet their individual needs. Children are supported to be able to use the toilet and wash their hands independently. We help children to be able to put their own shoes and coat on and to carry their own bag. We encourage children to develop a 'can do' attitude and to 'have a go' at new activities. This supports their resiliance, confidence and ability to deal with new situations. We encourage good social skills which will help children to be able to make new friends at school.

We are happy to share information with the school - with parental permission.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

I have Child Protection, Paediatric First Aid, Channel General Awareness, Preventing Female Genital Mutilation, and Adverse Childhood Experiences certificates.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

Parents are given extensive details about how we support children's health and well-being.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We inform parents about how their child is being supported verbally in person, and/or via social media, email, daily diaries or telephone as required, often supported by photographs that show the child's interests and progress.

Our complaints policy

Parents are given our policy on complaints and are invited to let us know if they are unhappy about anything or can make suggestions for improvement. Should parents wish to complain about our childcare provision we ask them to contact us in the first instance. We will investigate the complaint, take any necessary action and inform parents of the outcome of our findings within 28 days. Records of such complaints will be retained for our records indefinitely and will be made available to Ofsted should they request them. Parents who are dissatisfied with our response can contact Ofsted - Ofsted will expect parents to have contacted us first. Ofsted contact information is provided to parents and the Ofsted poster with their contact details is displayed.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

There is a wheelchair friendly slope to our front door which has a dropped threshold. The downstairs toilet is too small for a wheelchair to turn round. There is a step down to the garden and a step up to the lawn.

Facilities we have for personal care

Downstairs toilet. Upstairs toilet, shower and bath.

Specialist resources we have

Our garage is stacked to the ceiling with resources which are rotated for children to play with.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We organise trips that meet the needs of all attending.
