Vicki Barton's Dramatherapy Service enables young people from 3- 25 years of age a person-centred therapeutic setting where they can explore safely and confidentially either on an individual basis or within a group.

Dramatherapy is an expressive form of psychotherapy which uses the creative mediums in order to communicate and explore feelings and issues.

Neurodiverse friendly and acceptance of who they are as individuals. This service provides a safe and understanding place to go when things in life seem unsafe and difficult.

This service aims to meet the therapeutic needs of the young person and this includes the therapist collaborating (if permission is granted) between education, health and social care services to provide a good level of support around the young person.

Dramatherapy can help the young person move towards a happier and healthier lifestyle.

How we make our service inclusive

I have completed specialist training in trauma, child development, attachment difficulties and Pyschotherapy.

I am also a qualified secondary teacher who has worked with many special needs children including autism, Sensory aware, those with learning difficulties and children with behavioural difficulties.

Staff SEND experience

I am trained in special needs through being a teacher including dyslexia and dyspraxia as well as continued CPD in SEND. This includes Autism /Auditory processing disorder, sensory processing disorder.  I am neurodiverse friendly and accept individuals for who they are. I have some training in Sensory processing disorder and have a selection of equipment in the therapy room to support children with this need.

I am also a parent of a child who has SEND and have gone through the EHCP route.

How our service supports providers / schools / colleges

The therapist collaborates with the school to support them in working with the child through using the PACE model and helping teachers understand trauma related behaviour.

I offer training around working with children and young people who have experienced trauma/ attachment difficulties. I am a fully qualified Clinical Supervisor and offer supervision for teachers.

Support at key transition points

The service supports children , young people and their families at key transition points through helping to prepare for the change using therapy and working collaboratively with other services around the young person and their family. I also support completing EHCP's if needed . Write reports if needed for court.

It is also vital in supporting parents/carer's with their own children. The service offers parenting consultations.

Other local or national support

The service provides a list of organisations that supports families.

Resolving disagreements, mediation and making complaints

Complaints can be made directly or through the HCPC (Health and Care Professional Council). Parents are told from the start of therapy that they are welcome to speak to the therapist about anything at any point. The therapist is in regular contact with parents/carer's.
