The Brambles Nursery
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We are situated in a purpose built eco building that provides a light, warm and airy learning environment. We have good relationships with both the Primary & Senior Schools and a good transition programme with St Just Primary School. We offer an after school club and pick up several children each day from the Primary school. We are able to use the senior school sports fields as we are situated on their grounds.
We participate in the local St Piran's Day dance in March, the Lafrowda procession in July and often have a local artist who visits to help us make a withy structure to support and enhance our theme.

On Wednesday mornings the children attend a 'Zumba' class. The rising 3's and the younger children attend a half an hour session and then the preschool children attend for an hour session.

The preschool children have a French lesson every week where they have been learning to say hello, goodbye, colours, how are you, to count as well as words relevant to our topic of the term.

We have an outdoor environment enabling the children to free flow easily from inside to out. We focus on the outdoors - growing our own flowers, fruit & vegetables with the use of our poly-tunnel and planters. We continually improve our outside provision and have added a 'wobbly bridge', digging/construction area, tyre swing and a tyre to climb over and crawl through. A new playhouse has recently been added to the Field mouse garden. We have just refurbished our mud kitchen and fairy area and have added an all-year-round shelter and climbing area in the back garden.

In the summer term of 2022 the children hatched some chicks which are now situated in their new chicken coop in the back garden. The children have been collecting the eggs from the chickens and these have then been used by our cook within the children's lunch desserts. In the summer of 2023 the children placed some of these eggs into our incubator and watched them hatch and these chicks are now in the coop in the back garden. A hedgehog box has been placed in the garden and a sensory camera situated to record visits during the night of any nocturnal visitors which the children will watch the next day and record their findings.

In the Summer Term 2018 we opened another room to accommodate children under the age of 3 years. It has been equipped with age-appropriate indoor climbing equipment and toys. They have a garden with a vegetable patch, mud garden, sand pit and toy sheds containing ride on equipment and large physical equipment to promote physical development.  Tough spots are used for water and messy play outside as well as holding focused activities such as Autumn leaves, pinecones and twigs.

Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

We have tracking systems in place which enable us to track each individual child's progress. We further complete speech and language forms which allow us to further track the development of individual children.

We have a designated SENCO who attends regular training and local SEN network meetings. Rachel now holds the NASEN certificate in SEN.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

We support each child's needs and development by providing a key worker who works with the child gauging their interests, working with their parents and other practitioners and then planning for the child accordingly. They also complete a learning journal for each child and meet regularly with parents to discuss individual learning and development.

SEN team for our area.

How we support children transferring to school

Throughout the year there are several planned events. During the Autumn term the pre-school children are invited to watch KS1's nativity dress rehearsal and then reception class is invited to watch the nursery's dress rehearsal. During the Spring term the children are invited to the primary school for an egg hunt, story and refreshments. During the Summer term the reception class teacher and TA's take turns to visit the nursery once a week to become familiar with the children and read a story. In the second half of the term the children are invited to school in the afternoon for several consecutive weeks for some stay and learn sessions.

School is discussed all year round and some of the children who stay late see the school children return to Brambles for after school care. During the summer term the children have a photo album of the school to take home and discuss with their parents depicting the school, uniform and teachers. We set up the role play area with school uniforms for the children to practice putting on and wearing.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

All practitioners hold first aid, food safety and hygiene and child safeguarding certificates.

During the year practitioners' book onto training which underpins the area of development they are looking at developing.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We encourage our children to eat healthily and have started to grow our own vegetables and fruit which we will further encourage the children to try in our café.

Our daily snacks are healthy with lots of different selections of fruit throughout the week.

The school meals provided are healthy and nutritious and the menu is planned around the requirements of our children.

The children attend a 'Zumba' class every Wednesday morning where they learn to listen to instructions, work as a team and learn the skill of not always being the winner.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Through formal and informal meetings with parents and through individual learning journals. A half termly newsletter provides parents with up to date information on the 'topic' covered during the term and the activities planned to enable the children to have first hand experiences. Any events being held are also mentioned through the letter or shared on our closed FB page.

Our complaints policy

We have a complaints policy which is written within our policies booklet.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

As our building was built in 2010 it adheres to the necessary regulations for making our building accessible to all.

Facilities we have for personal care

Within our building there is a separate shower, a baby changing unit and an accessible toilet.

Specialist resources we have

We source specialist resources as and when required and appropriate.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

All the children within a room will participate within all activities - where possible. If a vet/fire-fighter is visiting on a set day the opportunity is offered to the pre-school children to attend as extra.

We endeavour to include all children on trips that are age appropriate.

There are always appropriate ratio of children to adults and parents are asked to join us where/when they are able.
