Gweres Tus Yowynk (incorporating the Youth Offending Service)
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Gweres Tus Yowynk is a specialist, multi-agency team, whose aim is to prevent anti-social behaviour, offending behaviour and re-offending by children and young people aged 10-17 who are, or are at risk of, committing such behaviour.
Having a responsibility towards public safety, this is done in collaboration with members of the community and statutory and voluntary agencies. We engage the victims of crime while seeking to balance the needs of the young person with those of their victims and the public. Benefits include safer communities, improved lives for our young people and multiple cost savings to the public.
As a Youth Justice Service, much of our work is with high risk, complex and vulnerable young people. Our approach is grounded in restorative justice and is firmly underpinned by our values of honesty, transparency and respect for all parties.
Our service is multi-agency, with professionals from many disciplines including nurses, social workers, a probation officer, education workers, a police officer, youth workers and parenting workers. Our work is normally done on a one-to-one basis and although sometimes young people come to our offices, we will normally visit young people at their homes.
Our statutory work comes from Court Orders and Police Cautions but we work with many young people on a voluntary basis. Young peoples' needs will be different according to their age, character, background, levels of understanding, compliance etc., and these individual needs form the basis of a plan that will guide our work with each young person.
