Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

We discuss individual children with their Parent/Carer when they start Pre-school, finding out if they have any concerns about their child's development. We carry out a progress check between 2 and 3yrs, to ensure that any emerging concerns are identified at an early stage. Regular observations are carried out on all children, which are then assessed against the developmental stages of the Early Years Foundation Stage. If we have any concerns we will then talk to parents, and with their consent we would make a referral to the relevant professional within the Cornwall Council Early Years Team.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

We have a designated SENCO. Planning is supported by the EYFS guidance. Regular observations allows us to assess and plan for individual children, ensuring all area of learning are covered, taking account of their interests and strengths, aswell as any areas requiring support.

Links we have to other agencies

We liaise with other agencies as required.

How we support children transferring to school

Children leaving for school are invited up during the Summer term to spend time in reception class. This allows them to familiarise themselves with the environment and the reception teacher.

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

All 3 members of staff are level 3 qualified.  All staff are 1st aid and food safety. 2 staff members have attended the LSCB Child Protection training, aswell as basic child protection, Letters and Sounds and various other training required.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We plan and provide for energetic play. We have a large outdoor area for the children to explore. We supply a varied and healthy snack every day. Children bring in their own packed lunches, we offer a cooked meal twice a week and supply all children with a water bottle. We have a freeflow system where children can access both the indide and outside environment at their choosing. We provide waterproof clothing and wellies.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

2 year progress check and 3 termly assessments are completed. We then invite parents to read and discuss their child's assessment with their key worker. Allowing any concerns to be raised. Informal chats also take place on a daily basis. Every new parent receives a Parent Information Folder.

Our complaints policy

Our setting believes that children and parents are entitled to expect courtesy and careful attention to their needs and wishes. We anticipate that most concerns will be resolved quickly by an informal approach. If this does not achieve the desired result, we have a set of procedures for dealing with concerns.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

We now have a new kitchen, much larger than before. This allows us to plan exciting cooking activities. The kitchen is accessed through a safety gate. Ramp access for wheelchair users.

Facilities we have for personal care

Low level toilets for the children. Sinks for washing hands. Nappy changing area. Cloakrooms to hang personal belongings.

Specialist resources we have

Large range of toys, puzzles and outdoor equipment for toddlers up to 4years.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

Through a variety of activities. During walks, correct staff/child ratios ensures the safety of children at all times. When outside the Pre-school setting, children and staff wear high visibility jackets.
