iSightCornwall

We are the only dedicated centre of resource for all in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who are affected by sight loss, whatever their age, circumstance or condition. We care passionately about helping anyone living with a visual impairment and have done ever since our foundation in 1856 when the charity supported Cornish miners.

Today it is estimated there are over 22,000 visually impaired people living in Cornwall. We aim to reach these people and support them to lead active and independent lives. We understand the complexities and life-changing nature of sight loss and the range of essential equipment available, not forgetting that sometimes even the smallest things can make a world of difference.

What we do

Help with low vision

We provide specialist advice about Low Vision aids at our Sight Centre, at clinics across the county or in your home. Ask your optician or eye consultant for a referral and we will make an appointment.

Gadgets and technology

We have a range of assistive tech on display that can transform everyday living, reading, writing and so much more. Book an individual assessment with our experts.

Everyday living

Pop in and meet our team, try out an extensive array of gadgets aimed to enhance everyday living, find out about audio resources and gain advice on equipment to suit your needs.

Clubs and activities

Join one of the many exciting clubs and social events taking place across Cornwall; from dancing to shooting there’s something for everyone.

Telephone befriending and walking buddies

We know that losing your sight can feel isolating and can affect your confidence in going outside so we have launched our telephone befriending service to put you in touch with a volunteer to have regular chats over the phone. We also recently started our Walking Buddy scheme which matches you up with a local volunteer who will accompany you on short walks around your community.

Eye Clinic support

Our Eye Clinic Liaison Officer, based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, can provide you with emotional and practical support to help you understand your diagnosis and come to terms with living with sight loss.
