Early Years Local Offer response

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

At Camborne Nursery School we use a range of strategies to identify and support all children. We believe parents are partners in the children's learning and development. We meet children at home before they start nursery to find out about their interests and needs. We assess children through play and use the Early Years Foundation Stage to monitor children's progress. We work closely with other professionals to support children in the Nursery. As a school we follow the SEN code of practice and monitor children with additional needs through the cycle of Plan/ Do /Review.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Children at Camborne Nursery are supported to achieve their full potential. All children have a keyworker who will observe, plan and carry out activities to extend children's learning through play. We work closely with parents (and other professionals) to help children achieve their full potential.

Specialist skills or training our staff have

All staff have been trained in promoting children's levels of well being and involvement in their learning. We have experienced teachers and teaching assistants who understand child development and are trained in observing children's levels of wellbeing.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

Here at Camborne Nursery School we encourage children to be independent and access a range of activities through our fantastic environment. Children are given opportunities to explore and investigate the world around them using all their senses. We encourage children to be kind and gentle through our circle times and stories. We have a strong policy to promote positive behaviour.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We have termly meetings with parent/ carers to discuss their children's learning and wellbeing. We complete a learning journal which is a unique folder of individual children's progress, This is available at any time . We have a fortnightly newsletter to share learning and activities as well as open days and coffee mornings.

Our complaints policy

We have a complaints procedure that is shared with all parents.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

We have an access plan which is updated annually to meet the needs of all children and their carers. This policy is monitored closely by Cornwall Council. Camborne nursery school is fully accessible and an inclusive Nursery School.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have an accessible toilet and changing areas for children.

Specialist resources we have

All staff are trained in supporting children's language development through 'Learning, language and Loving It' We use Makaton to support all children in their language development along with visual timetables. We have a soundfield system to support children with Glue Ear. We have a sensory room to support all children in sensory processing.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We are an inclusive Nursery and value all children as unique. We have an enabling environment which allows them to access resources and activities to develop their confidence and curiosity. We offer 1:1 support for children when appropriate and work with parents to ensure all children are having their needs met.
