Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
Helitots staff carry out on going observational assessments of all children in our care. These are linked to the development matters ages and stages of development Each child will have a key worker, their role is to develop a trusting and sensitive relationship with parents and children to enable respectful sharing of information.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
We invite all parents and their children to visit Helitots prior to their child starting, we use this time to have an informal meeting to get to know your family. We work with parents to identify each child's specific needs before starting. It is important that we get to know your child's personal likes and dislikes, and we have an idea on their developmental stages. We will work with you to support your child, by carrying out on going observational assessments, which may in some cases identify individual needs. We also work closely alongside other early years professionals. If we feel their support and knowledge could help your child, with your permission, we will make the relevant next steps.
- Links we have to other agencies
We have developed good links with the local speech and language team, Early years SENCO and the Early years advisory teacher. With your permission we will contact other teams with expertise needed to support your child and Helitots to ensure we are meeting your child's individual needs. In recent months we have developed professional relationships with our local Child Development Centre and other professionals used in CAF meetings.
- How we support children transferring to school
We will hold a transition meeting at your convenience to plan the transition for your child into their new school. This gives the school time to make necessary plans for any changes they may need to make, as well as sharing targets on your child's IEP's. We would also arrange for your child's key worker and new teacher to attend settling in sessions both here at Helitots and at their new school, we have found that this has helped make a smooth transition. In our experience we have found that CAF meetings provide excellent opportunities to ensure that all information is shared with all who need to know.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
Our staffing team have been on various training courses such as; Speech and Language, Communication, Makaton, Behaviour management and Visual aid. Our SENCO attends all the network meetings, ensuring we are up to date with all current information and practices. Many of our staff have bben with us for a long time, this has allowed us to build up a vast wealth of experience, knowledge and understanding of the early years practice, EYFS and children. We believe this has enabled us to provide a high standard of care.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
Our staffing team are very welcoming and friendly to each family; providing an inclusive, sensitive and positive approach so your child feels welcomed. Our staff are good role models for behavior and provide consistency in our day to day care. We have a daily routine which is flexible to ensure we provide a positive environment for your child's needs and ensure all personal care is met. Personal health care plans can be adopted if necessary, and staff will be trained in giving the appropriate medication for your child if required. All activities will be adapted to ensure your child is able to fully interact with their environment and visual strategies will be used to help them understand and be involved in our daily choices and routines.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
We encourage you to be involved with your child's learning from the very first visit. We will have termly parent and Key person meetings to involve you in identifying needs, information sharing, identifying targets and next steps to focus on at home and as well as at Helitots. If more frequent meetings are needed to develop IEP's they will be arranged at a time to suit all involved. Helitots has an open door policy, which means that parents are able to come and speak to their child's key person and management whenever they wish. We understand the importance of clear communication with all parties. If any outside agencies need to be involved, parental permission will be sought.
- Our complaints policy
We have a complaints policy which can be sent on request.
Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
Helitots is a one level building. There is a small step outside the front door, but we do have a portable ramp which can be used to gain access to the building. We also have portable ramps which are used to enable easy access to our outside play area as there is a small step when accessing the nursery from the playground.
- Facilities we have for personal care
We have an accessible toilet with a large private space for personal care.
- Specialist resources we have
We have a delegated budget to train staff and provide equipment/resources needed to support your child. Other funding can also be applied for.
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
All activities at Helitots are planned and delivered so that all children can be involved. We have height adjustable tables, various sized equipment i.e. paint brushes, crayons and a large floor space which provides spacious areas for play. When planning visits off site your child's personal needs will be taken into account. We will endeavor to include parents in the planning of visits, we can prepare a photo book for your child so they know what to expect. If your child requires any aides or medications, these will all be taken in to account whilst planning the trip. On every trip risk assessments are carried out.
