Our nursery is split into 3 rooms: Baby Room, Toddler Room and Pre school. Each room is designed with age and stage appropriate resources to engage and stimulate children to learn through their play and develop relationships whilst at nursery.

Our nursery caters for children from the age of three months through to pre school age. Children are cared for across 3 rooms according to their age and developmental stage. The environment of each room is specifically designed to suit the individual needs and interests of the age group.

There are parts of each day when the children are integrated across the age groups to enrich both their socialising skills and the educative process. The rooms are light and airy with lively displays of the children’s work, showing the creative and educational content of their activities. Children are given the opportunity to participate in activities that offer real life experiences and offer an abundance of developmental opportunities.

The friendly, tranquil and caring atmosphere created by the dedicated staff gives both the children and their parents the confidence to enjoy the times they spend apart.

The nursery has a lovely enclosed garden areas that enables all age ranges to enjoy ever changing outdoor activities which children have access to throughout the day.

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Each child is allocated a key worker who records observations and tracks children's progress in line with EYFS Learning Outcomes.

Our staff are fully trained in using an online system of recording your child's learning, called Tapestry, to create their individual Learning Journeys. The system provides a strong link between our staff and parents that allows children's progress to be recorded and shared by both parties creating a holistic vision of a child's development that allows us to celebrate progress and also identify and share any concerns if we feel a child needs any additional support.

The close partnerships we build ensure we can support families and their children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to provide the appropriate additional support for their development to thrive. We can then seek support from other agencies such as Speech and Language Therapy or the local Senior Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator to create individual learning plans (ILPs) for staff and parents to work towards together.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

On entry to the nursery we complete a baseline assessment to identify a child's initial stage of development. If a child joins us from another nursery we will liase with them to discuss your child's stage of development and encorporate this into our baseline assessment.

Each child's key worker frequently records observations to contribute to their learning journey, these observations then allow us to identify children's next steps that guide our planning in each room. This enables activities and resources to specifically support children's learning and development needs.

We follow the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle for any child who requires different or additional support to the rest of the children. This cycle creates a whole staff approach to supporting a child to reach their targets.


Links we have to other agencies

We have links with the Local Early Years Inclusion Team including;  Early Years Social Communication Worker, Local Area SENCO, Early Years Inclusion Worker. Speech and Language Therapists, Children Centre Teachers, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Portage Workers, Social Workers, Family Support Workers and the local area Advisory Teacher of the Deaf.


How we support children transferring to school

We plan transition meetings with reception class teachers from the local area and have established strong partnerships with many schools and their reception staff. We also meet with individual families and school SENCO's to pass on information.

We are developing transition bags for our most popular schools that we feed into that will include photographs of the teachers for children to become familiar with, samples of uniform for children to try on and social stories that show children photographs of the daily routine and parts of the school building.


Specialist skills or training our staff have

Our Manager is a qualified Early Years Teacher (EYT)

All members of staff (apart from one who is training) hold a level 3 or above qualification in childcare and education, paediatric first aid, food hygiene and safeguarding. All staff have an awareness of Prevent and hold a certificate. We have makaton trained staff and regularly share signs with all members of the team. We also use skills gained from Elklan training to support children's communication development. Our SENCO staff have attended relevant training and are experienced in providing SEND support.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We have achieved all 6 stickers for the Healthy Under 5's programme that promotes health and well being for our children and families.
Parents are encouraged to provide a healthy packed lunch from home and we also offer a hot lunch that is provided by Willows Educare.

We regularly share information with parents on how to keep their children safe on subjects including sun, road and online safety.

Our environment has been developed with thought and care to ensure its safe, stimulating and secure.


Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Our online learning journeys present continued information regarding children's progress that are sent directly to parents each time they are updated. Children receiving support from outside agencies will receive regular communication about strategies and progress through the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle, this includes 6 weekly review meetings and regular TAC meetings if appropriate.

All of our policies and procedures are updated regularly and available for parents to read.


Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

Our nursery is all based on the ground floor with safe access to all areas indoors and out, each room has a small step into the garden but wheelchair access is available through an alternate route.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have nappy changing areas and potties are available at all times.

Specialist resources we have

Our resources include a sensory tent and a range of sensory toys including a bubble tube, glowing cube, light box and sensory baskets.

Our traffic light system alongside photographic routine cards are used throughout the setting by all staff as a visual aid for the daily routine.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

Trips are planned according to children's individual needs.

We are fortunate to have access to local facilities such as the library, play park, cafe's and gardens within walking distance.

Our supervision ratios are increased for trips in line with risk assessments.
