Egloskerry Pre-school
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Egloskerry Pre-school is a rural setting, operating from a modern purpose built Eco-building on the site of Egloskerry School.  We provide highly quality, child centred childcare for children from 2 years to school age.

the Egloskerry Pre-school team deliver an early years care and education provision that encompasses Forest School and the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. Enhanced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which looks to educate the heart and hands as well as the head.

Our unique eco-nursery and natural outdoor approach to learning  fosters an appreciation, respect and care for nature, which will then be deeply embedded in our lives. This nature-inspired unhurried approach allows children to develop a deep love of learning and a care for the environment, which will continue throughout their lives.

We follow nature’s rhythms, which inspires a child led approach to play and development. Making meaningful decisions, throughout each phase of your child’s unique journey.

Our staff are reflective researchers, striving to gain a deep understanding of individual children. Through a loving, nurturing and language rich environment, children feel safe to play and develop important life skills. Such as persistence, resilience, curiosity, creativity and resourcefulness. Children in turn become empowered, exploratory learners with a very high emotional intelligence.

We are graded 'Good' by Ofsted, who recently stated "Staff provide a rich and stimulating learning environment. The good range of interesting resources, such as sensory toys, encourages children to be curious and interesting resources, such as sensory toys, encourages children to be curious and explore. Children make good progress from their starting points".

Our highly qualified staff team work hard to ensure that each child has access to learning and development opportunities, taking into account the child's individual stage of development and their interests. Our play environment, both inside and outside, covers all the areas of learning and development specified within the Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage.

The pre-school is part of the Early Years Alliance, who has more than forty years' experience of working in partnership with parents to provide the best possible care and support for families and young children.  In more recent years we have developed and managed settings that deliver high quality, flexible and affordable childcare to families throughout England.

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

Before a child starts Egloskerry pre-school, we will talk with the parent/carer, about their child's specific needs and requirements.  Registration forms are  filled out and discussed. We also provide a welcome pack and an' All About Me booklet' to be filled out by the parent and discussed with the key person. This will provide more detailed information about your child and ensure we get to know them for their first day at nursery. This information is used when setting up the provision for your childs first day. To ensure they are interested and excited by their new environment, aiding a smooth transition.

Our Focused intervention approach aims to identify additional needs, the SENCO and key person meet with the parents to plan support for the child through a graduated approach (SEN support).

We work closely with parents to get to know children well and use EYFS tracking for all children and through our observations we plan for the individual child. The ECAT monitoring tool is used to assess the children's language and communication. Within the first few weeks of attending, staff complete a base line assessment. At the end of every term parents are invited in for a consultation with the key person. We use cohort tacking to help us identify children's individual needs.

Our staff are highly qualified and attend regular training to enable them to have a progressive, up to date knowledge of child development. The management team are both qualified teachers and level three qualified Forest School leaders.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Staff talk to  children and parents to ensure that they have a secure knowledge of each child's development. Observations are undertaken, during individual learning time/continuous provision and within group work. A combination of all of these allows staff to complete termly progress reports which help to identify areas of progress and those areas that may need a little support. Should a child need extra support, this will be done during their play based learning in a way that suits that child's learning. Characteristics of effective learning are monitored to further support staff from gaining an understand of how and what the children are learning. Our setting implements ECAT monitoring forms to ensure that children are developing their speech as expected, it also allows us to plan for interventions and referrals should they be needed.

Staff attend Makaton training, sensory training and positive behaviour management and visual training.

We work closely with outside professions such as, SLT and the SENCO team and follow agreed targets for children to achieve.

Links we have to other agencies

We work closely with our local Children Centre, Inclusion workers, Speech and Language team, Senior Locality SENCO and Visual impairment team. We also have knowledge of other support agencies and how to contact them should the need arise.

We host network meetings with other settings to create a learning community.

When a child attends dual settings, we ensure welfare and progress is tracked to ensure the best outcomes are monitored.

How we support children transferring to school

We work closely with our onsite school to ensure that transition is as seamless as possible. We have transition sessions all year round with the local school. This allows the children to familiarise themselves with the staff and other children. Each aspect of school life and routine is experienced before the children move up to school.

This continues after the children progress to school, ensuring communicatins and support continues when needed. It also allows the new children to meet the school but it also gives the reception class a chance to see the Nursery staff and old friends.

Children who may move on to other schools will have their new class teacher invited in to observe the child/ren in their environment and to talk to the child's Key Person. Each child will pass their learning journey onto their new teacher to share their learning experiences so far, this will include a transfer document to pass on assessments for each area of learning.

Ofsted recently stated "Partnerships with local schools are strong. Staff organise joint activities to help children to get to know the environment and become familiar with school staff. Children move on to school with confidence and self-assurance"

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

All staff have attended the following training: 12 Hour Pediatric First aid, Food hygiene,  health and safety, Senco, positive behaviour management.

The Nursery manager is a Qualified Early Years Teacher with a Early Childhoood Studies degree, Rachel is also a qualified  level three Forest School leader.

Recent additional training: Behavior management, Outdoor first aid, SENCO training, CAF training Safeguarding, mentor and leadership and extensive Early years Alliance training.

The deputy manager is a qualified primary teacher, with early years experience. Who is also a Forest School leader. Recent training consists of behavior management, meaningful maths, mark making for boys and various SENCo training and network meetings.

The team continually attend new training and conferences to update their knowledge if chid-centred practice, such as, planning in the moment, communication friendly spaces and the Mind stretchers floorbook training, to empower children to lead their own interests and knowledge.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We ensure that we take all possible measures to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment for the children within our care. Risk assessments are carried out to help prevent possible injuries occurring inside and outside. Risk assessments are regularly assessed and updated. The Nursery is set up in a way that ensure that there is a quiet area for children both in the inside and outside environment. We have researched communication friendly spaces and try to create a calm environment that allows the children to engage and learn without becoming over stimulated.

We assign a key person by observing which adult the child forms a natural attachment to, this relationship is central to the key person system. 2 year checks are done during the spring term and these checks are written up and shared with the parents. Parents are then able to contribute to them and help to set targets, should their children need any extra support or nourishment in any area of learning. We work at creating an environment that also allows parents to feel that they are able to come and discuss concerns, apprehensions, changes of circumstances etc with us. We hold an open door policy that allows parents to share any circumstances with us from home that may have an impact on their children here. We work together with parents to ensure that any change of circumstance is supported here, and that information is shared between the child's parents and key person regularly. All staff have undergone safeguarding training and this is regularly refreshed and updated. Our designated person is Rachel Fasham, Nursery Manager.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

We have an open door policy, parents are encouraged to talk to all staff and view the child's learning journey when ever they wish.

We have started to use the 'Famly ap', for parent/carer communication, invoicing and digital Learning Journeys. All feedback is very positive, Parent receive all up to date information thought his format.

Learning journeys are available for parents to access daily, with opportunities for parents contributions. Key practitioners are available to talk about specific needs and wishes daily.

We give feedback at the end of every session and daily diary's are available for younger children.

We post appropriate updates our Facebook page to demonstrate the activities that have been experienced.

Monthly news letters give a detailed insight of learning development and events.

Termly consultations provide documented detailed feedback of all areas  of learning, development and welfare. to source feedback are fed into parent forum gatherings to consult on improvements and feedback. We have robust comments, concerns and complaints procedures to ensure feedback is gathered from parents.

Parents are given free access to all our core policies and procedures and a notice board provides further updates.

Our complaints policy

A copy of our complaints policy is displayed on the Parent's Noticeboard together with a copy in our policy and procedures file. An OFSTED poster is also on display.

Any complaint is dealt with firstly by discussion, if not resolved at this stage then requested that complaint be put in writing. Complaint investigated and responded as a priority. If still not resolved then complaint is passed to Manager's line manager and escalated.

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

Egloskerry Pre-school is a modern, purpose built setting. We therefore have wheelchair access and a ramp with a hand rail. We also have disabled access toilets.

Facilities we have for personal care

There are two private toilets within the Preschool for the children to go independently. A potty is also fully accessible if a child is potty training. There is a nappy station which is partitioned to allow for discreet changing. We are happy to support parents and children with potty training.

We fully understand and support that children have differing levels of self care and are here to support their individual needs. There is a space within the toilet area that is available for changing of clothes too.

Specialist resources we have

Highly experienced and trained staff.

We have numerous resources for all different children along with choosing books to help the children make chiolces and lead their own learning though the day.

Children can access specialised Forest School resources and a large range of open ended natural play resources to intrinsically motivate challenge and imagination to ensure children reach their potential.

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We often go to the local park and run Forest School sessions for everyone. All children are included in any trips that we have on offer. We also make good use of the school field and playground. All children are able to access this.

All trips are thoroughly risk assessed by staff members, prior to any visits taking place.
