Specially prepared activities for holiday sessions, ie:theme days, trips, swimming, craft & sports sessions etc, cooking.
Large outdoor play area - suitable for bikes, scooters, skateboards etc, also enclosed adventure playground & garden. Children can bring own bikes/trikes & ride-ons.
Pool/snooker table, board games, puzzles, construction, musical instruments, computers, TV/DVD, climbing frame, pets, craft room, sand & water play, sensory room, dressing up etc etc.

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

We attend TAC meetings for children on our register (when invited to do so).  We access specialist equipment when needed, and increase staffing support, where possible, either funded by ourselves or through a childcare funding route or via social services. We have a strong system of supervision for supporting staff who are working with children who's behaviour can be challenging.  We have an individual approach to behaviour management and try to meet the needs of individual children rather than one size fits all.  We work very closely with parents where children have additional needs and support where we can with advice and childcare.

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Children are identified through routine observations and discussions with parents. Children who display and behavioural or learning needs are given additional support in ways which does not undermine their confidence or self esteeem.  All staff have training in meeting individual needs and are guided by the owner, Jan Driver, who has a specialism in special educational needs.

Links we have to other agencies

We are very happy to work in partnership with any agencies who are involved with children, including social services, schools and therapy services.

How we support children transferring to school

This is not applicable in the play club as children do not attend until they have been in school for at least a half term.


Specialist skills or training our staff have

The owner has a B.Phil.Ed in special educational needs.  All staff hve attended some training in working with children with additional needs and there is regular 'in house' support for staff in this field.

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

We feel it is important for children to settle well. For children with complex needs, we ensure staff have appropriate training before the child starts to meet medical or other needs.  We use a number of sensory strategies to help children with sensory difficulties remain calm. We have a specialist sensory room and a lot of access to outdoor play, as the weather permits. We find out door play helps children to feel comfortable. We try to meet cultural and spiritual needs as appropriate and feel our focus on children's well being is paramount.

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Parents meet staff daily when children arrive and are collected. They can discuss concerns and celebrate achievements informally at any time. If a parent would like a more formal meeting they can request one. Children who have early support TACs in place can always have a person from the play club present, if they invite us.  (very rarely this may not be possible for some reason) and we can host these meetings if asked. This can enable the child to attend the setting while the meeting takes place. We provide written reports for children who are in care or are the subject of a child protection plan or child in need plan, if requested to do so.

Our complaints policy

Our complaints policy is written down and clearly defined. it is available for anyone to see, on request.  We are not happy if you are not happy and so we much prefer to discuss things personally if there is a concern.  You can email the owner or ring one of the staff to arrange a meeting.


Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

We have a level garden and access to a level playground which is accessible from the playrooms.  There is wheelchair access by the back door at the moment, though this does involve a low step. 

We have an accessible toilet.

We have different furniture of different heights to accommodate children of different ages and sizes.

We have a range of toys which appeal to children of lower developmental stages and can access equipment for children with very delayed development from our sister nursery, if required. 

Facilities we have for personal care

The accessible toilet offers the space for a carer to provide discreet, intimate care.

Specialist resources we have

Our sensory room is a great asset but otherwise there are too many to name here.  If you are interested, you are welcome to have a good look around and explore the resources without feeling pressurised to book a place.


How we include all children in activities, such as trips

We usually use buses or trains to transport children on trips.  We use buggies and wheelchairs if children have/need them.  If we know a child is attending on a particular day of a trip, we will make sure there are facilities for changing, etc built into the itinerary.  If we consider it is not safe for us to take a child with significant behavioural difficulties on a trip, we will discuss this with parents.

We do increase staffing ratios according to the individual needs of children who are coming on trips with us.
