Wild Camp Training Programme for NEET Young Women (18-24)
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
A six week (1 day a week) programme for young women to develop kayak/canoe/SUP paddling skills, campfire cooking skills and learn basic expedition skills.
It is an empowering programme looking to boost emotional literacy (motivation, self-belief, confidence, self-regulation, empathy and social skills).
The last week culminates in a wild camp adventure that the group of young women have helped to plan themselves.
The young women are referred onto the course if they meet the following criteria;
- N.E.E.T (not in education, employment or training) or at-risk of becoming NEET
- Female
- 16-24
- Comfortable around the water
- Able to spend long periods of time away from toilet facilities

This is where we meet and hire kayaks/SUP/wetsuits from. The rest of the project is run on local beaches and at Cotna Eco Retreat.

- This includes all hire costs, water safety crew, specialist staffing, cooked lunch/dinner, drinks, and over-night camping charges. It is based around 7 days and 1 night. It works out £95/client/day
We are working towards offering this for free and/or heaviliy subsidised as and when funding bids have been successful and/or Wild Wonder and Wisdom CIC have made enough profit on other services.

Inclusion details
- How we make our service inclusive
We are not yet accessible for young people with physical disabilities but we are working towards becoming so.
- Staff SEND experience
Experienced teacher of 18 years with SEND and BESD experience both in mainstream and special school settings. Qualified Forest School Leader since 2006 and Outdoor Instructor since 2017. Intervention project management skills in alternative education provision targeted with reducing exclusion rates from mainstream school and outreach Emotional Literacy Support programmes.
- How our service supports providers / schools / colleges
It is helping to boost Emotional Literacy in young women who are currently NEET or at-risk of becoming so. The programme aims to empower its clients and enable them to make measured decisions about their journeys back into education, employment or training. Wild Wonder and Wisdom CIC is networking with Cornwall Council and other social services to support these young women.
