Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
All children are allocated a key worker when they begin attending the setting. The key worker is responsible for completing learning journeys which contain observations, termly monitoring assessments, two year old progress check, baseline and initial profile. Observations are carried out to assess all children's learning and their stages of development. Using the termly monitoring assessments key workers are able to assess how children are making progress and create action plans for children that need extra help and support.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
Learning journeys for each child are completed using observations linked to 'The Early Years foundation Stage'. The setting use the electronic learning journal, Tapestry. We continually monitor based on high-quality observations and plan enriched activities based on the children's interests and learning needs. We are able to use our information to track children's individual progress and to plan activities which we ensure are based on children's interests, needs and abilities in both the weekly and termly planning. This information is shared with parents and SENCO. We also have access to the ECAT monitoring tool to refer to when making our observation which enables us to identify any speech and language needs for all children attending.
- Links we have to other agencies
We have been supported by The Early Years Inclusion Team, Health Visitors, Speech and Language Therapists and the Locality 3 SENCO. We have good links with the class teachers at Mylor Bridge C.P. School and Flushing C.E. School.
- How we support children transferring to school
Teachers from both Mylor and Flushing schools attend social events at the pre-school for children and parents if able to attend. During the summer term the children who will attend Mylor Bridge C.P. School have weekly visits to the classroom for stories and play opportunities. Learning journeys and monitoring sheets are shared with reception teachers so that they have a good understanding of each child's interests, needs and abilities. There may be additional meetings with schools to support transition for children with SEND and their families.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
All staff hold a relevant level 3 or higher qualification. Staff are knowledgeable and also have many years experience working in childcare which is beneficial to the group. Staff have had training in Paediatric First Aid. Most members of staff have training in Makaton. Staff have all had safeguarding training. The SENCO attends network meetings to ensure SEND knowledge is kept up to date. Staff take part in training programmes to develop their knowledge and skills.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
Children's key workers liaise with parents regularly to ensure we have up to date information for children regarding changes to health or home life, this enables us to support children's differing needs. Key workers support children so they learn to share and take turns, value others ideas and thoughts, are able to make choices and to be independent. Children have access to an enclosed garden space everyday, rain or shine, where they are able to take part in physical activities and games and gardening activities.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
Staff build strong relationships with parents and carers and are available to talk with them everyday. Parents are encouraged to contribute to their children's learning journeys by adding comments about their child's current interests or achievements. The online Tapestry Learning journey is used and so parents have immediate access to observations made and learning journeys are available at all times for parents.
- Our complaints policy
We follow statutory guidelines and procedures as laid out in our complaints policy.
Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
The building is one large light level room which is accessible for all children.
- Facilities we have for personal care
We have two toilets for children to use and lower level hand basins and a nappy changing area.
- Specialist resources we have
Resources are adapted to meet the needs of each individual child.
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
All children are supported and included in all activities and trips. We regularly take children on local outings. Our setting ensures that a high adult: child ratio is in place and thorough risk assessments are carried out.
