At Early Birds we offer a variety of sessions to accommodate the varying needs of families within the community. For a full list of all the sessions we offer, please visit our website.

There are many government schemes in which you can receive funding for the your child's sessions.These include;

Yes - all welcome & catered for. Recently have a Chinese family who's understanding of English is limited. We worked with the Parents to access an EAL grant and with their support purchased some additional resources. We also have experience of a Family who practice the Muslim faith. The Parents are very pleased to share information about their faith and festivals.

We speak English at the nursery however support children who speak English as an Additional language and children who have developing communication skills through using Makaton signing and visual aids.

Learning and development

Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support

During your child's settling in sessions we work with the parents to create an "All about me" profile to gather information on any individual needs the child has and a better understanding of their current level of development. 


Throughout your child's time with us their key person completes a 'Learning Journey' which comprises of regular observations, photos, parent contributions, wow moments and termly summative assessments. This enables us to reflect on the development of each child to ensure they are making progress. We work with the Early Years Foundation Stage in order to know where each child should be developing according to their age. This helps us identify any areas of delay and make appropriate actions to support the child in that particular area of learning. 


If we had concerns about a child's development, at first instance we would discuss these with you as parents & carers in order for us to work together. If needed and agreed with you, we can make referrals to receive additional support in areas of expertise e.g. speech & language. 


 

How we identify and support children's learning and development needs

Our SENCO's have attended specific training on Behaviour, Sensory and attachment training.Our Deputy has also attended behaviour training. We have in place visual supports such as visual timetable and spot timers.

Links we have to other agencies

 


We work closely with other nursery's in the Early Years Alliance, sharing practice and ideas. We also have strong links with Bude Primary Federation which aid us in supporting the children's transition to school. The nursery also works with the Senior Locality SENco, Inclusion worker and other professionals where needed in Cornwall 

How we support children transferring to school

The nursery operates from Bude Primary Federation therefore we work closely with the school to ensure children have the best possible transition and are ready for school when they start. We support children to visit the school and teachers visit children in the nursery environment. 


Each child's key person will also complete a transfer document summarizing the children's learning accross the Early Years Foundation Stage. We will work closely with you in preparing this document to ensure it is accurate and individual to each child. 


 


 

Welfare

Specialist skills or training our staff have

All staff receive safeguarding training and the manager attends a more intensive Multi Agency Safeguarding training. 


All staff are Pediatric First Aid trained


The Special Educational Needs Coordinator attends regular training to keep skills and knowledge up to date 


The manager has Early Years Professional Status and her degree specializes in physical activity. 


Staff attend regular training throughout the year for example, all staff have completed a 'learning language and loving it' program focusing on interactions with children. 

Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being

All staff have up-to-date safeguarding training. All staff have enhanced DBS checks. Risk assessments are regularly reviewed and updated if necessary. We have in place a key person system so that parent/carers build a relationship with their child's carer. Small group work is an integral part of our daily routine. Parents are encouraged to discuss any concerns they have at arrivals or departures. We regularly attend "Team around the child" meetings and work with outside agencies to ensure the health and well-being of the child.


Every day the children take part in a morning and afternoon 'Fun fit' session and have free flow access to the outdoors where they can challenge their physical skills and be active at the setting. 

Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported

Your child's key person completes regular observations on children, taking into account what they are showing interest in and how this supports the children in their learning and development. We have recently introduces a nursery software system in which parents can view their child's learning & development from home at any time. This is helping us work more closely with parents & carers and creating a collaborative approach to children's assessment and progress. Parents are also able to see the 'next steps' we are working on with children and may contribute to these from home. 


 


Each Term we hold a Parent's Evening where you can enjoy an allocated time slot with your child's key person and discuss all the lovely things your child can do. 


 

Our complaints policy

A copy of our complaints policy is displayed on the Parent's Noticeboard together with a copy in our policy and procedures file. An OFSTED poster is also on display. Any complaint is dealt with firstly by discussion, if not resolved at this stage then requested that complaint be put in writing. Complaint investigated and responded to within 28 days. If still not resolved then complaint is passed to Manager's line manager and escalated.


We endeavour to provide the best possible care for children at the setting and always welcome feedback on the provision we offer in order to continuously reflect and improve what we do. 

Access

Alterations we have made to make our building accessible

We are in a purpose built ground floor building that is accessible to all. This includes wider door frames for wheelchair access; accessible toilet; discreet changing area; outside area accessible to all.

Facilities we have for personal care

We have a nappy changing unit situated in our 0-2's room. We also have a children's bathroom with 2 small children's toilets. 

Specialist resources we have

We use our knowledge of the children's interests and termly assessments to inform us of resources we need to buy in order to enhance our learning environment. For example, we identified from our most recent termly assessment on children than 'Maths' was an area of weakness for all children therefore purchased resources to support children in their learning in this area. 


We have recently created a sensory room in which children can use throughout the day should they need it. 

How we include all children in activities, such as trips

Local walks in the community are managed by staff at the setting. Risk assessments are carried out before going on any trip or outing. We have spare pushchairs for children who may have mobility needs.
