May's Play Days because outdoor play is magical Suzie May
Services and organisations that have the Local Offer flash have filled out inclusion information, meaning that they meet the needs of people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Where are we: Childminding within a farm setting. We believe every childhood should be magical; that puddles are for jumping in and the outdoors is there to be explored. 1mile off the A395. We take 2,3 and 4 year old funding
What are we: We are aiming to offer what I wanted when my children were younger, trying to take some of the stress out of being a working parent. We offer 8am-5.30pm Monday-Thursday and by doing cooked meals (we bake all our bread etc). If your children are here for meal times you can have quality time after work rather than trying to cook for a hungry child as soon as you get in. I work with up to 2 other adults and we foster a family feel approach.
I have worked as a Nanny and an Au Pair with 8 weeks old to 9 year olds, plus raised my own. I am also a hockey coach and have taught hockey in primary schools. I would rather read and tell stories than put a DVD on for tired children. I believe play is magical, the best way to learn, and that you are never too young to start or too old to stop. We work outside in our Orchard and field shelter, and very latge polytunnel. We have a mud kitchen, painting, tree swings (a baby swing and a tyre swing) den building, planting flowers and picking them, growing vegetables and eating them and plenty of imagination. We have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and ducks. We also have travel cots and a cosy tent for naps. What we don't do is watch TV and play electronic games!
Training: I have level 3 Forest school and beach school,I Cache level 3 in Home based Childcare; paediatric and oudoor 1st aid; Level 2 in food safety for catering; Level 3 child protection. I have also completed the following courses run by Cornwall’s Early Years Team. Eating well for under 5’s; How to understand and manage young children’s behaviour; Sensory training; Play and engagement for child with complex needs; Special needs and disability induction training; Supporting two year olds; The digital world of the early year’s child; Tuning in to boys development in the outdoor environment; Visual aids training; Makaton sign language.

Early Years Local Offer response
- Systems and strategies we have in place to identify children that may require additional support
Our introduction sheet asks for as much information as possible about a child’s needs. By working with parents and any team around the child we aim to provide care and activities suitable for the individual child’s needs.
- How we identify and support children's learning and development needs
We monitor under 5's which show their progress in line with The Statutory Early year’s framework. This along with sharing information with parents/carers will help us identify any concerns early (including support for high achievers) which enable us to help provide the best start for each child by planning for their individual strengths and weaknesses.
- Links we have to other agencies
I have been on the Senco introduction training and attend Senco meetings.
- How we support children transferring to school
Young children come with us on school runs so become familiar with the school, it’s surrounding and routine. In our home they mix with and become friends with older children from the school. We share information with the school as per our working together policy.
Learning and development
- Specialist skills or training our staff have
I have Cache level 3 in Home based Childcare; Level 3 paediatric 1st aid; Level 2 in food safety for catering; Level 3 child protection and early help. I have also completed the following courses run by Cornwall’s Early Years Team. Eating well for under 5’s; How to understand and manage young children’s behaviour; Sensory training; Play and engagement for child with complex needs; Special needs and disability induction training; Supporting two year olds; The digital world of the early year’s child; Tuning in to boys development in the outdoor environment; Visual aids training. My husband who works alongside me on Fridays is a fireman and has health and safety training.
- Support we offer regarding children's health and well-being
We spend a lot of time outside. We are a very active environment but also encourage self-regulation when it comes to sleep and rest for under 5's by providing snuggle blankets and a cosy tent for toddlers (we have a travel cot for under 1's). We are in the process of signing up to nipper’s nutrition so will have approved menus. Children are involved in the menu process and in cooking. They are also included in planting and growing of food and caring for our livestock. We also have a safe guarding policy in place in line with Ofsted requirements.
- Ways we inform parents about how their child is being supported
we make time to talk on a daily bases
- Our complaints policy
Complaints are dealt with in line with our policy and with guidance from Ofsted and Pacey. We aim to liaise with parents regarding complaints and hope we will be able to reach a conclusion that is acceptable to all parties. Parents/carers are informed of Ofsted contact details when they start with us and given information about our safeguarding policies and procedures along with the contact numbers needed.
Welfare
- Alterations we have made to make our building accessible
Our building is a newly restored farmhouse and the part of the house we use is all on one level. We have toddler friendly steps with a hand rail at their height. We can also make a ramp if needed.
- Facilities we have for personal care
We have a downstairs shower/toilet and each child is given their own towel to use.
- Specialist resources we have
We will look at getting additional resource to suit the requirements of individual child.
- How we include all children in activities, such as trips
We have a nine seater van so can take extra adult support when needed. We have extra-large boot so can accommodate wheelchairs as well as pushchairs. All trips and outings are included in our hourly rate so parents/carers will not need to find extra funds. Daily activities at home are planned around individual needs of the children we have on each day.
