Parenting Programmes


Parenting programmes are courses/groups that support you with some of the challenges of being a parent. Parents tell us that they learn a great deal from each other and enjoy the support that a group provides. We offer a selection of free courses, whatever the age or needs of your child.

Pre Birth (Antenatal)

Bump to Baby Antenatal

This is a self-guided course composed of three presentations to provide parents-to-be with all of the information and skills they need to feel confident about making the right choices for their new baby.

Topics include:

  • Having a healthy baby
  • Preparation for parenthood, birth and beyond
  • Communicating with your bump and baby
  • Changes in relationships
  • Getting your baby off to the best possible start
  • How babies grow and develop

Parent/Carer of Child Aged 0 - 3 Years

Being Passionate about Parenting (1-3 Years) Virtual Course | Care and Support in Cornwall

Join us for a 6-hour workshop (three 2-hour sessions) for parents and carers of children aged 1 to 3 years. It is an introduction to strategies and incorporates golden threads from our other parenting programmes.  

The aims include:

  • To build positive relationships with our toddlers
  • To develop top tips for positive behaviour management
  • To give support and confidence to parents and carers

Topics in this workshop include:

  • Child led play
  • Special time
  • Praise
  • Limited choices
  • Use of language
  • Routines

This workshop is offered both face-to-face and online. 

Parent/Carer of Child Aged 4 - 11 Years

Being Passionate About Parenting

Join us for a 6-hour workshop (three 2-hour sessions) for parents and carers of children aged 4 to 11 years. It is an introduction to some top tips and strategies and incorporates golden threads from our other parenting programmes. 

The aims include:

  • To build positive relationships between parent/carer and child
  • To encourage skills for boosting emotional resilience and self-esteem
  • To develop strategies for positive behaviour management
  • To encourage parents to develop strategies for challenging behaviour 
  • To give support and confidence to parents and carers
  • To encourage peer support within the group

Topics in this workshop include:

  • Positive behaviour management strategies
  • Developing emotional resilience 
  • Setting limits
  • Keeping safe
  • Looking at parenting styles
  • Problem solving 

This workshop is offered both face-to-face and online. 

Parent/Carer of Child Aged 12 - 17 Years

Living With Parents

Join us for a one day, in-person workshop for parents and carers of young people aged 12 to 17 years. Living with Parents is an evidence based workshop for parents and carers to attend with their young person.

The aim is to improve communication and relationships and reduce conflict within the home. Both parents and carers and their young person undertake a range of activities including:

  • Interactive activities
  • Structured activities
  • Guided discussion
  • Group work
  • Strategies and top tips
  • Discussing effective communication
  • Relationship building
  • Boundary setting

This workshop is only offered face-to-face. 


Being Passionate About the Teenage Brain

Join us for a 6-hour workshop (three 2-hour sessions) for parents and carers of young people aged 12 to 17. It is an introduction to strategies and incorporates golden threads from our other parenting programmes.

The aims of the workshop include:

  • To build relationships with our young people.
  • To develop positive strategies to support behaviour management.
  • To provide support, information and confidence to parents and carers.

Topics in this workshop include:

  • Boundaries and communication
  • Emotions
  • Keeping calm
  • Praise
  • The teenage brain
  • Parenting styles 

This workshop is offered both face-to-face and online. 


TAKE 3

Join us for a 20-hour workshop (ten 2-hour sessions) for parents and carers of young people aged 12 to 17. TAKE 3 is an evidence based course for parents and carers to understand the importance of parenting teenagers in the context of:

  • Nurture
  • Structure
  • Self care
  • The teenage brain

It also covers breathing techniques that the course teaches to help a parent stay calm in stressful situations.

Sessions Covered:

  • Introductions – why are we all here?
  • What’s adolescence?
  • Encouraging young people
  • The power of listening
  • Misbehaviour and listening
  • The four styles of parenting
  • Taking stock, “I” statements and boundaries
  • Negotiating boundaries and consequences
  • When adults disagree -  more negotiation practice
  • Saying goodbye and moving on

This workshop is offered both face-to-face and online. 

 

Positive Parenting Bitesize (Parent/Carer of Child Aged 0-25)

Positive Parenting Bitesize

Join us for a 2-hour workshop for parents and carers of children/young people aged 0 to 25 years.

Solihull approach online antenatal, postnatal and parenting courses

All parents and carers in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly can now access these self-guided courses for FREE. Visit the link and use the code TAMAR for free access. The Solihull Approach have released also an online course for TEENS:  ‘Understanding your brain (for teenager’s only!)’ Solihull approach online antenatal, postnatal and parenting courses


Hunrosa Sleep Education

Parents – What’s on offer:

  • Parent Sleep Wise Education Video - A short Sleep Wise presentation by Sleep Consultant Jan Jenner to help parents with sleep strategies for young people and families. Contact your healthcare provider for a bespoke link for a family.

SPACE - Supporting Parents and Children Emotionally

SPACE is a new free programme for any parent or carer who wants to better understand and support their children’s emotions, as well as their own.

This 6 weeks face-to-face programme will cover:

  • Understanding what is meant by a Trauma Informed approach
  • Understanding toxic stress and the flight/fight response
  • Practical approaches to support children to regulate their emotions
  • Healthy coping strategies for dealing with stress
  • Managing different emotions
  • Understanding behaviour
  • Building resilience in ourselves and our children
  • Adopting appropriate expectations of children
  • Enhancing your ability to provide nurturing care

Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) Service-

VIG is an intervention for parents/carers and their children where there are concerns about communication, interaction or the attachment relationship. Parents/carers will need to be available to work with the VIG guider and want help to try and improve the relationship between them and their child. The starting point of VIG work is the adults (and older children where relevant) being supported to identify their own goals - specifically what they want help with. 


Safer Futures Recovery Pathway Programme

The SUsie Programme (The Susie Project) provides trauma informed psycho-educational support to men and women who are recovering from domestic abuse. This support programme is tailored towards enabling clients to recover and positively move forward with their lives. The strengths based programme focuses on long-term wellbeing and is designed to address the impact of abuse and enable victims to develop future protective behaviours.

The Reconnect Domestic Abuse Recovery Programme

The Reconnect Programme is a needs-led support programme tailored towards children and young people (CYP) aged 8-18 years who have experienced/witnessed Domestic abuse.   The programme focuses on the long-term recovery and resilience of children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

Parent / Carer with a child or young person with additional needs

Understanding your Child with Additional Needs

‘Understanding your child with additional needs’ is an evidence-based, self-guided, online support that can be accessed at a time that is most convenient to you and completed at your own pace. The resource offers engaging videos, helpful notes and tips from other parents, resources you can save and print, interactive quizzes, and much more! The course can be accessed from a computer, tablet, or mobile device.

Supporting Healthy Relationships

We are investing in training for parents and for the practioners who help parents, to reduce those harmful conflicts that can negatively affect children.

All our current training for parents is booked up and full, and our training for practioners is ongoing.
